Roanoke Times Political Cartoon on Perriello

The Roanoke Times has a great political cartoon on Rep. Perriello's ACES vote and the ensuing reaction from the tea partiers. Good catch by Paul Wiley, and check out his new blog.

I love this cartoon, but I have to say, it makes him look a little bit like a younger Ted Kennedy. Jowly and whatnot.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Good cartoon. It is a rite of passage for our congressman. You know your a big league player when political cartoonists begin drawing you. Way to go, Tom!

I just don't get these tea baggers. OK, Let's say we do nothing and leave things as they are. What happens in the next couple of years when fuel prices go back to $5 a gallon? Your crazy if you think you've seen the last of expensive gasoline. We've seen what happens over the course of the last 18 months....the wheels of our economy have fallen off. This recession/depression can be directly linked back to the spike in fuel prices. It is not the first time it has happened either. Back in the 70's, after the oil embargo, our economy went through something very similar, however back then we turned to foreign oil and that's how we got into the predicament we are in today,ie...importing almost 70% of our oil and fighting the costliest war in the history of the world. The course we are on is absolutely not sustainable!!!! We have got to transition away from fossil fuels and by doing so we can generate an enormous amount of wealth in rural America.

I read this recently from economist David Morris, he wrote, " Bertrand Russell, the great British philosopher and mathematician has discussed the difference between change, and progress. Change is inevitable while progress is problematic. Change is scientific, while progress is ethical. We will have change whether we will it or not. But we will have progress only if we change the rules to guide entrepreneurial energy and investment capital and scientific genius into creating new institutions, new technologies, and a new economy that reduces our carbon footprint while maintaining the quality of life for our citizens." We need Progress and that is why President Obama was elected along with Congressman Perriello.
