Goode, the nominee!

Every year TPM hands out their annual Golden Duke awards. This year Rep. Virgil Goode is a finalist for the Sleaziest Campaign Ad Award for his "Met Tom Perriello" ad. Any ad that makes you simultaneously hate Tom for being both Muslim and Jewish is its own kind of clever.

I can tell you first hand that this ad had a negative affect on his campaign ... well, couple that with Tom's positive ads.

Update: As Darren Staley reminds me, our sisters and brothers to the South are also represented in this contest: soon to be ex-Sen. Dole's "Godless" ad against now Senator-Elect Kay Hagan.

As a North Carolina reader, I would vote for the Dole "athiest" ad. But the Goode ad is, well, "good," as in good being bad.

Can't argue with the sleaziness of the Dole ad. On the other hand, take that anger and focus it into one congressional district and you get the reaction to Goode's ad.

The Goode ad is nasty, but I love the one against Nancy Barnes, the "big city mayor" with "San Francisco-style values." What's funny about that ad are the "San Franciscans" shown in the ad. I've been to San Fran, and I didn't encounter anyone as lame as those three posers.

One of my favorite things about the Dole ad is that Hagan responded by talking about how religious she was. Gave the ad a certain amount of credence, I thought.
