Local Southside GOP Leaders on Frederick's Oustering

The Martinsville Bulletin has an article providing local GOP reaction to the oustering of RPV Chair Jeff Frederick from his post. Del. Don Merricks (R-Pittslyvania) said:
“I don’t really get involved in the politics of politics,” said Del. Don Merricks, .... “I’m just trying to represent the people and not let things like that stand in the way.”
[...]
“I’m just doing the best I can to represent the people and not get caught up in that kind of stuff.”
Stay neutral and don't upset the base - probably a smart political answer. The Henry County GOP Chair, on the other hand, did not dodge the issue. Saith Don Lawson:
Frederick “failed on many levels,” Lawson said. “That’s something we didn’t need right now. ... I believe his removal was long overdue.”
Several other local leaders could not be reached: Del. Danny Marshall (R-Danville), Martinsville GOP Chair Tim Halpin, and 5th District Chair Tucker Watkins. We, however, have already heard Watkins' take on the matter several days ago.
